Cow Hollow School

This year our family joined the Cow Hollow School community. Finding ourselves part of CHS has been part of the serendipitous journey that has been Maisy's preschool life. First, when she was 2 we happened upon Mount Sutro School. MSS was a great place for her to be with other adults and a small group of 6 children, for me to begin to separate from Maisy, and for Dave and me to learn all kinds of parenting skills. As we began to consider Maisy's next step after MSS, one of the small handful of preschools we applied to was Cow Hollow School. We were thrilled to be offered a spot! CHS and MSS share similar philosophies, so transitioning from MSS to CHS felt very natural for us as parents, and I think for Maisy. Plus, CHS is a parent participation school, so we have been actively involved in the classroom throughout the year.

At CHS Maisy is part of the Little Bay class, which is 3- and (mostly) 4-year-olds. In fact, she's the youngest in her class and the oldest child is about 11 months older! Other than her periodic frustration with skills (e.g., she doesn't write her name yet) or emotional maturity (e.g., she is more likely to melt down than her oldest classmate), it actually seems great for her to be the youngest. Besides, that is what her later school life will likely be, as with a June 21 birthday I believe she will make the cut-off for Kindergarten when she's just barely 5 years old, and will always be one of the youngest children.

Anyway, we love CHS for many reasons. Wonderful teachers, a great community of families, an amazing location in the Presidio… I could go on and on. The good news is Maisy still has several months of the current year, summer camp, and a whole year to come with CHS! For the time being, here are a few photos from school.

Maisy and her classmates Kyle and Maggie prepare for the Dragon Heart Parade, a CHS tradition celebrating the Chinese New Year.
Maisy, by the way, consistently tells us that she is going to marry Kyle when she grows up. Uh-oh.
