Buster is our beloved canine, pictured here in the masthead. [Thanks to my dear friend Rachel, who is not only a whip-smart attorney, but is also a gifted photographer, for the photo.] We adopted Buster in October 2006; we think he's now about six years old. We hope he'll be with us for a long time!
The "Red Dog" part of this blog's name is for Buster, who is, well, a red dog. (Creative, I know...) More specifically, he's an Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog, otherwise known as a Red Heeler. Cattle dogs are also called heelers because they're herding dogs that typically nip at the heels of the animals they are herding. Although he has his share of quirks and neuroses, thankfully heel nipping is not among them.
Buster is such a sweetheart. A perfectly fitting member of the family.
ReplyDeleteDoes he ever try to herd Maisie?
ReplyDeleteJill - Buster is not much of a herding dog, I'm afraid. No nipping at the heels. No rounding up the flock. :-) He does prefer when we're all in one place - e.g. one room, or one part of the park - but I don't know if that is so much a herding instinct, or just a pack instinct.
